Okay, if anyone can help me out with this one, kudoes for you. My son is a serious puker. He doesn't just spit up a little dribble or two, no, he literally spews back at least a third of his bottle after a meal. He also has very bad gas. A few things to note here is that 1. he's been doing this since I quit nursing at one month (for a lot of reasons, and not because I wanted to.) And 2. He's on Infamil Soy formula. We've talked to his doctor, and though this is normal, and he's gaining adequate weight, it still concerns me. Anyone whose got a puker on their hands, knows what a horrible time we have. I've tried burping in mid-feeding, changing him to a sitting position after he eats and giving him a little rice cereal in the bottle.(He's four months.) Nothing seems to help, and I'm concerned because he always seems hungry after a feeding. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
have you brought up the possibility with your doctor that it could be acid reflex? did you try the non soy formula? different brands of formula? i'm not a doctor, but babies are tricky and it's kind of a try until you get it right sort of thing. my niece had this issue and i know that the carnation brand worked for her. my other niece had the same issue and her doctor said it was acid reflex and put her on meds which helped.
sorry i don't have a cut and dry answer for you, but i hope something here will help.
Yeah, I tried qe non-soy brand, and also Carnation, and nothing worked. Thanks for qe advice, though.
I'm not a parent, but one thing that comes as a thought...Which bottles are you using? From what I've been able to find out (from reading and experienced parents/day care givers) when it comes to helping prevent spit up/puking Dr. browns bottles are amung the best. Just a thought...
I had a Dr Browns bottle for Isaiah, the flow was too fast and he choked on it. Of course he was only 2 months old. They still caused the gas and stuff. We finally found the bottle that works to him. It's the playtex vent air. Life savers! But my friend in Canada's baby was throwing up like that and was even puking through the nose. It was acid reflux and he's on meds for that and doing better now.
One of our kids was a puker, and disgusting is putting it mildly.
However, we found that if we interrupted the feeding frequently and let him get his breath, he got less air and it seemed to help.
I know it seems like they aren't getting enough to eat, but, really they are. Just hang in there and it will all pass pretty quickly. (No pun intended.)

When do they stop spitting up? I see no end in sight, and he's 5 months old. Will it go on when he's eating solids? I mean, formula's no too bad, but imagine him barfing up a Mc-Donald's cheeseburger or his breakfast cereal! Oh, too scary!
What does the pediatrician say about this?
Yes, check with the pediatrician.
Generally, though, it stops pretty early. If he's five months old, I'll bet it stops pretty soon.
Bob (who doesn't have a shingle to hang up).

Have you tried Bowen therapy? It's a very gentle technique that works on connective tissue release. I practice this, and have seen very good results with problems similar to what you are experiencing. If you live in the UK, have a look at www.thebowentechnique.com. If you're international, I don't know of the directory listing of therapists, but i'm sure that google would be able to help.
